Mission Statement

The National Professional Science Master's Association (NPSMA) supports PSM programs, engages businesses, industries, non-profit organizations, and government agencies, and promotes the PSM as a graduate degree-of-choice for students in science, mathematics, and technology.

Vision

The NPSMA is a collaborative of PSM program directors whose combined expertise and experience will increase the number and quality of PSM offerings. The NPSMA is uniquely positioned to facilitate collaboration between universities, students, and their alumni with employers in various business, industries, nonprofit organizations, and state and local government agencies. There will be broad recognition of the PSM degree as the degree of choice and that PSM graduates will fill critical needs in the workforce.

Values

The NPSMA believes:

  1. Graduate education that combines science and math with business training provides graduates with skills critical for productive and influential careers in both the public and private sectors.
  2. The PSM is an applied graduate degree of choice distinct from other Master's or Doctoral degrees.
  3. Research and business communities value the important contributions that PSM graduates make in the fields of applied science, technology, and mathematics.
  4. Ongoing dialogue among universities, students, alumni, and employers about workforce needs and curriculum development is imperative.
  5. Career opportunities and professional satisfaction for PSM alumni are essential.
  6. Data are critical for assessment of best practices and post-graduate employment rates to inform decision-making with respect to development of new and improvement of existing PSM programs.

Priorities

For the NPSMA to be a value-driven association established to meet its mission, it needs to maintain the following priorities:

  1. Organizational structure - To create an inclusive and adaptable association designed to meet the needs of its membership and support its policy agenda.
  2. Membership development - To provide timely and useful programs and services that allow for the exchange of best practices, curriculum sharing, marketing, networking through national and regional conferences, database development, and maintenance of an association website.
  3. Policy agenda - To advance collaborations among allies and organizational partners to secure ongoing support for the PSM movement.

Goals

  1. Organize the NPSMA to be a self-sustaining professional membership association which supports its members and engages its stakeholders.
  2. Establish the PSM as a graduate degree-of-choice by working directly with universities and employers.
  3. Develop an interactive PSM community of program directors, faculty, alumni, students, and employers.
  4. Serve as a clearinghouse of information to support PSM programs.
